French to English translation
Translating a text is more than just changing words from one language to another. Each language has its own culture and expressions and good translators generally only translate into their mother tongue.
Each project is different, and before I start I like to discuss your expectations, targeted audience and any particular vocabulary requests.
I am more than happy to work with a glossary of terms specific to your company. Each time I work for a new client, I create my own database of terms – this ensures that any repeat work for the same client includes the same terms and avoids unnecessary corrections at the end.
Translation projects are charged per source word.
Editing – Make your text flow!
Editing a document involves a lot more than just checking the spelling and grammar.
An English text written by a non-native speaker will sometimes lack the turn of phrase and fluidity required for a smooth read. Outsourcing your final text to be edited can give it the polished finish you need.
Of course, each project is different, and before I start I like to discuss your expectations, targeted audience and any particular vocabulary requests. I am more than happy to work with a glossary of terms specific to your company.

Proofreading – Two pairs of eyes are better than one
There are numerous reasons to get your text proofread. These include checking for errors, spelling mistakes, capitalisation, punctuation, style and grammar, as well as verifying terminology.
Proofreading is also important when your text has been translated by more than one person in order to harmonise styles or terms. It can also ensure a text is well translated and reflects the tone, style and message of the original.
All quotes for translation also include a proofreading element. The golden rule for all professional translators is that two pairs of eyes are always better than one. Have you ever looked at a correctly spelt word so many times that it starts to look wrong? It is also easy for the brain to stop registering mistakes when it reads something that you have written yourself. For this reason, I work with trusted English-speaking colleagues who bring a fresh view to my work before I deliver the final translation.
Proofreading projects are generally charged by the hour – sometimes a page of text can take five minutes to proofread, but sometimes a lot longer if a translation needs reworking.
Certified translations
As a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL), I can provide certified English translations of official documents such as birth, death and marriage certificates for official UK bodies.
Unlike many other European countries, the UK does not have a system of ‘sworn’ or ‘certified’ translators. Official bodies often stipulate however that certified translations must be carried out by a member of a professional body, such as the CIOL.
